We are a crisis management consulting firm formed to assist
business, government and private organizations in prevention, planning for, and responding
to major crisis events. We focus on relationship management , crisis media
training, crisis policy clarification, crisis communication plans, response mobilization, and
development of crisis training excercises.
Prior to forming Charles L. Webster & Associates, Inc., Mr.
Webster served as Director of Emergency Preparedness for BP America. He remains
a consultant to BP and is a member of the BP Exploration Alaska
Response Team, advising company officials regarding the public consequences of
response options. During actual crisis events covering two decades, Mr. Webster
has served as external affairs chief, assessing and managing public outrage,
external exposures including media relations, government relations, community
relations and overall public perception.
Mr. Webster has responded to more than 15 major crisis
incidents including murders, casualty explosions and a major air pollution
incident inundating residential communities. He has also prepared witnesses and drafted testimony for state and Congressional hearings associated with crisis events.
Mr. Webster has handled the crisis
communications aspects of major environmental incidents throughout North America.
The firm has conducted training, exercises, workshops and seminars
in the Continental United States, Alaska, Bangladesh, Canada, China, Colombia, England,
Hawaii, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, The Netherlands, The Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand,
among others.
Mr. Webster has personally trained more than 10,000 people to successfully communicate during crisis.
During the
successful response
to the AMERICAN TRADER oil spill near Los
Angeles, California,
Mr. Webster and his team conducted 7,000
interviews over a 39-day
period, establishing
high credibility for BP and nearly eliminating
conflict commonly associated
with such events. Mr.
Webster was cited by
the Los Angeles
Times, on the 20th
Anniversary of Earth
Day, as representative
of what business communicators
could be if they cared.
Prior to joining the oil industry, Mr. Webster was a writer,
editor and reporter for ABC News, NBC News and the Associated Press. He holds a
BS degree in Telecommunications from the Newhouse School of Public
Communication, Syracuse University. Mr. Webster has taught portions of an
advanced management program at Case Western Reserve University, Weatherhead
School. He chaired the government/industry exercise panel at the International
Oil Spill Conference, Seattle, Washington.
